Admittedly, I have only a passing interest in fashion, but I am interested in strong personalities, which is why I rented this. I have to say that Grace cuts a far more compelling figure than Anna, who came off as too reserved, too uptight, and too rigid to really rate as a worthy documentary subject. I'm not sure if this is a fault of the filmmaker or Anna. She appears to be utterly without a sense of humor, she's so confined in herself. She wasn't even bitchy or mean enough to warrant my attention for very long. I know she's great at her job, but someone whose primary talent/strength is "decisiveness"is not exactly fascinating. She's too self-possessed to carry a documentary, in short.
Grace, on the other hand, had an excellent story to tell and felt much more open to the documentary experience. Perhaps that's why the narrative kept shifting in her direction. This lady loves her work, articulated why and, more importantly, demonstrated her craft on camera.

Have to agree entirely with this, you can pretty much tell Anna is holding things in by the faces she's continually making. It's almost like she agreed to be filmed to create a warmer image for herself but could only manage to restrict all her normal behavior which just made all her scenes boring and reserved.
Grace on the other hand was actually interesting and could easily be turned into a documentary subject all on her own.

I read Grace Coddington had been writing a memoir but her co writer has taken a job as editor at Town & Couuntry, so there will be a delay.

Her passion for her work (and the work itself) is so inspiring. Such an interesting person.

I would say her choice of clothing is unexpected, which just makes her that much more interesting! She works at a beacon of the fashion world and has ratty hair and wears black potato sacks. Who would've ever thought, you know?
