Why is the Hunger Games called the Hunger Games? I know it does not mean that the tributes starve, because that is not the main point of the event. Why "hunger"?

Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most talented actresses I have ever seen.
I mean, she's only in her late twenties and she's already has four Oscar nominations and one win!

In regards to the name, I do believe that it refers to the hunger of the participants in the games. I think the game was originally primarily about survival and avoiding starving to death. Over time, the desire for blood-lust and tv ratings caused the emphasis to shift to killing each other.

I really like Isabel Fuhrman, but I just can't see anyone other than Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss. Her acting ability is simply incredible. I don't think the movie would have been better if swapped. I think it would have been worse.

Let's all (or at least most of us) just agree that Jennifer Lawrence is awesome as Katniss.

Again it's all about acting ability. It is standard practice to cast older
actors/actresses to play teenagers. Generally speaking, in that age range
age correlates with acting ability. For an example of casting teens close
to the age of the characters see the Zefferelli "Romeo and Juliet"(1968).

Yes. JL may not fit the physical description of Katniss in the book, but for
such a pivotal role it was all about acting ability and Jen blew them away
from her first audition. Isabel was considered too young to play Katniss.

'Well fed' is a more accurate description. Only a total anorexic could possibly consider JL to be 'fat'.
But she is much bigger than the Katniss described in the books.
Which is why some posters have suggested Isabel Fuhrman (Clove) is physically better suited to play Katniss. And JL is much closer to Clove.
But JL totally owns the role. She is so good that no viewer could see anyone else playing Katniss.

A main complaint about this movie adaptation is about that. In the books people starve many times. The movie almost doesnt show this situation. Besides, Jenifer Lawrence is too "fat" for this character, they must have chosen a girl younger and skinny.

However I have seen Battle Royale 2 that was released in 2003 and also Battle Royale released in 2001. This film is a copy of both films. However Battle Royale 2 is much better and much more violent.
I don't know when the book was written . But if the book was released after battle Royal, it would be like me writing Jurassic park and then releasing a film of it?! In theory they could have made this a great film, but they chose to leave out any kind of violence. I am really interested to see if the book is also just the same as Battle Royale 2.
Someone should be sued!

"If they have no sponsor to provide food for them and if they have no real hunting/gathering skills or are not able to take food from the Cornucopia at the beginning of the games, then they are quite likely screwed and will end up starving to death."
that's why Katniss destroyed the supplies at the Cornucopia. she knew that she and Rue could feed themselves but the careers could not. it gave her a distinct advantage.

It's essentially called that because most of the people living in the districts of Panem are living in relative poverty and some end up starving to death. The winner of the Games receives, as one of their prizes, a year's worth of monthly supply drops for everyone in their home district which they can use to stave off hunger for a while longer. Also, the name refers to what can happen in the arena during the Games. You are wrong in saying that "it does not mean that the tributes starve", because there is a very real possibility of it happening. A Tribute stands the best chance of winning if they have decent enough survival skills and if they can gain a sponsor. If they have no sponsor to provide food for them and if they have no real hunting/gathering skills or are not able to take food from the Cornucopia at the beginning of the games, then they are quite likely screwed and will end up starving to death.
