Actually, Mac had help a lot of times.
But this new series really sucks. There have been a few good moments, but I only tolerate it because it is on right before Hawaii Five 0.

I have no opinion on this show because I haven't seen it. I didn't even know it existed until I started Netflix binging AGAIN and came to look up a character in one of the episodes. Loved, loved, loved the original show so I appreciate you laying it all out there so I know to avoid this.
I cannot recall ANY remake, reboot or reincarnation that was BETTER than its original. Too bad nobody in Hollywood seems to learn from these awful cookie-cutter-nowhere-near-the-original-story-line-monstrosities.
Further, the only book adaptations that have been relatively well-done were the ones based on Agatha Christie's books. I'm still shaking my head over what they did with "Flowers in the Attic". Just wrong.

It's possible their names are on it, which gives them a cut of the money, but they have no actual input into it. Although Henry Winkler was a producer for the original series, for example, I don't think he had much creative input into it. I doubt if he has much on this either. Zlotoff, who knows. I just don't think those original people are the driving force behind this reboot at all.

Did the producers even watch the original show? Or did they get something sorta kinda close but still miles away and slap the MacGyver name on it?
Henry Winkler, who is a producer and director for this series was also a producer and durector for the original series.
Lee David Zlotoff was the Creator of both the original and this series, and he has writing credits for both series as well.
Especially with those credentials, I expected way much more that this. As has been said, there is nothing more than the name here.

correct . someone in a team of spys do some science stuff and the whole team looks and acts like jokers and villains become so childish by act but legend by profile can never be a MAcGYVER . I want to see this season go away ASAP . team knight riders , macgyver reboot must be done with passionate people , not just by some business guys .

Sure I have a lot to "complain" about but in the end I do enjoy this show. Not as the highlight of the week, not even close to that but more like a filler. Like when you watch CSI or Law and Order (I mean, nothing against those shows but probably almost nobody watches those as they watch other shows they really can't wait to see the next episode.
then again, I'm someone who can enjoy pretty much everything. All I need in a show or movie to be enjoyable for me is entertainment, even if it's bad, as long as I'm entertained I'm cool and to me, MacGyver is entertaining so I do watch it. But unlike some other show it's not like I'm waiting to finally be thursday again or something like that.

This 'show' is not MacGyver at all, only similarity are the names. MacGyver never had a team either..

Am I the only one who doesn't want reboots to be exactly like the originals? There would be no point in doing a reboot if you were going to make a carbon copy of the original. In fact, as a fan of the original I'd be more ticked off if they did try to copy it.
And do people forget that this is 30 years later? The 80's MacGyver wouldn't work at all in 2016 where pretty much everything is ran by a computer. Surveillance is everywhere, tech is everywhere. You'd never get the same MacGyver where everything mechanical-based.
Now I'm not saying whether or not the show is good or bad (impossible to tell after just 2 episode). I just don't get the whole "we want it to be the original" mindset. Wouldn't that cheapen the original more than anything else? At least when it's "loosely based on" it's really easy to shrug off or look at it as a different show if it sucks.

well its not the damn 80s anymore better get use to it i for one will always enjoy the original more but this one not too horrible i enjoyed it for now its pretty good for the intended audiences.and macguyver used his fist plenty back in the original as well quiet a few times actually but it bein the 80s they didnt have it all choreographed as they do nowdays.

He actually fired a machine gun in the pilot. But after that, he'd either take the gun apart and use it in some unconventional manner(like as wrench or as a way to blow the lock off a door), or rig a gun up with strings so that it goes off as a distraction. As for hitting them with a gun, I'm not sure about that, but MacGyver did get equivalently violent a few times. In the opening gambit "The Map" he hid a metal rod in the rolled up map and beat up a soldier with it. That's not a far cry from pistol whipping someone.

Agree that the show disappointed. Too much action. Felt rushed at times. There were too many cliche's But really, I think my disappointment was that it didn't have the magic of the original.
As for the gun scene, it didn't bother me. If I knew Mac didn't like guns and he was in that situation, I'd probably still toss him a gun. That said, I recall Mac doing some stuff with guns in the original, other than shooting with them. Maybe he hit someone with the butt of a gun in the originals? I kinda recall him doing that (maybe the original pilot?) and then stating he hates guns. That was decades ago so this may all be made up memories

. And before they even finished filming this episode we were told that there was going to be a lot of them. Lots of TV shows and movies have Easter Eggs in them!

Scorpion entered the area of "pulp" a season ago. No team in the world would have so diverse problems to solve then this crew. They probably saved the world three times now. Their solutions would always take weeks to implement and test, not 30 minutes. Nobody watches Scorpion for the correctness of the show ("Quantum cmputers anyone?"), you watch it for the banter and the crew.
MacGyver tries to be the "best" guy in the room, and maybe the new "Phoenix Foundation" can achieve that. But the pilot was really bad, and it didn't helped that James Wan was "stunt casted" as director/producer. He mostly did Horrofilms, and I don't think its a good fit.

And to make it worse, it MIGHT have worked with hand scanners in the 80's and 90's, there is very little chance it would work with today's technology that does have a sense of 3D about it.
Other than being good at figuring things out in contrived situations by people that don't quite have the technical knowledge to contrive a situation properly, he has pretty much nothing in common with the original MacGyver. Presumably Richard Dean Anderson's character would really, really dislike the new guy. Hell, I imagine Colonel O'Niel wouldn't be to keen on him either.

Second, the casting for macgyver sucked. Like seriouslynothing against the actor, but he is just not meant for this role.
Thirdly it seemed more like an FBI / CIA detective show where they just sent in an unprepared guy and a bunch of people other people helping out. Rather then like the original where it was macgyver went in a lone covertly under cover, and made figured things out as he went.
Horribly bad reboot in every way, i stopped watching before then end of the first episode

It is basically Scorpion Lite without the geek-angst and slightly better actors and writing with no annoying genius kid that is smarter than everyone (other than MacGuiver himself)

Agreed, and I'm surprised how bad this really is. And not just the fact that they get all the characters wrong, that they turned it into dumb blow'em up crap, that the CGI is super cheap I mean, they're literally telling the audience, "look, this is a lightbulb, this is a paper clip, this is adhesive" etc. Who the heck is this show targeted at?!
They should've called the reboot "MacStupid."
