Disappointing.
Do mainstream audiences not enjoy ambiguous LeCarre endings?
The cuddly, loveable team of good guys overcoming the bad guys made me roll my eyes.

Hugely over-rated. I hadn't read the book, but have to believe Le Carre's novel was butchered to make what is a poor imitation of a Bond movie.

I'm ok with not everything ending bleakly or ambiguously..I see enough that do.
Sometimes the
bad guys
do get overcome. A dire expectation is not the only realistic aspect of life.
Maybe there's some suspension of belief of how Roper was able to trust so completely but deeply embedded people do actually accomplish this given enough time. I'm not sure about the timeline here.

I like the fact that there is a just and happy ending in the TV adaptation. We all know we're in rotten world where bad buys prosper and get away with it - just look at W Bush and Blair starting an illegal war in Iraq, murdering Dr David Kelly etc.

You can find a summary of it here. I think this would've made a much more exciting and satisfying ending to the tv show.

I don't have the books. I did not like the ending either. Can someone tell me what the ending was like in the books?

Mainstream audiences like mainstream endings.
I've not read the book, but like the sound of its ending better than the pretty package delivered here. Still, I enjoyed the show.

Agree. I liked the show up until the last few minutes with the happy ending. It was very unrealistic.
After seeing the show i read the end of the book and that was much more satisfying. I wish they stuck with it for the tv show.
