He often re-enacts the crime in front of the suspect, to either get them to confess, or to gauge their reaction.
He definitely had already figured out the arrows and found the note in the light socket beforehand.

But if he pretended to not have done it before, then was the whole point of putting on the whole show for her? Why not just put it together once, use that to get an arrest warrant, and arrest her and be done with it?
Why bring her there to put on a show, when he already discovered the evidence and is just going to arrest her anyway, so what's the point?

I think he had put it together previously, and redid it for her to see.
