John Carpenter, that's the guy - thanks for reminding me of who I was trying to figure out half the film
I was really surprised as well about the ending, but it felt like they left an opening for a sequel. Or better yet, let this film be, because part of the suspense is the lingering thoughts you might toss around in the head for a while.
And, the rating makes absolutely no sense. I can see why many thought it had flaws, but so many as it wouldn't get a higher rating than 4.6? That is way too low in my opinion.

Yeah. I am really puzzled about the 4.6 average and all the negative reviews. I really liked the movie. It was beautifully shot, acting was great and the music was perfectly eerie. It reminded me a lot of John Carpenter's early classics.
I almost waved at the screen as the film ended, because I thought the ending fit this little gem perfectly. Too many movies are completely ruined with over explaining everything in the end.
Oh, one little thing, POSSIBLE SPOLERS. I thought that the gory shot towards the end was quite unnecessary.
