Oh, but I wasn't speaking merely of the gun debate. Most American liberals support the Second Amendment and the right to own guns, within reasonable regulations about who owns them and what type of gun they own.
I'm just referring to over-the-top liberals who say the other side are right wing lunatics and trolls if they disagree with them.

I appreciate it, Gameboy, but I'm not fully anti-gun. Mr. Jacky has a shotgun and two pistols. I'll be damned if I hike through and camp in bear country without that added protection, or if I'll live in as great a theft magnet as a vintage VW campervan without a means to protect myself and my dogs.
That being said, of course, I am fully in support of imposing far stricter regulations.

The next time I see my cousin I'll piss him off by acting sincere and telling him he's a Obama supporter (or maybe I can use it as a pejorative a minute later) because he's a gun nut (shouldn't he dislike Trump then?), constantly talking about immigration (Obama was the deporter-in-chief), weird hate for Muslims (Obama started/bombed a handful of Muslim countries) while any murmur about a Christian sets him off, not being aware of his double-standards.

Yes, I agree that the fact that there is a prior history and a huge number of guns poses a genuine problem. But the will to change doesn't seem to be there, or if it is, it is being efficiently blocked by what C. Wright Mills called the "power elite." Most Americans are fairly sensible, but the political machine does not reflect the people's choices. The NRA has clout that is quite disproportionate to their numbers. They should simply be named a terrorist organisation, and banned. Right-wing attitudes to gun regulation are positively medieval. They are exactly on a par with some fundamentalist Muslim attitudes to women's rights.

I agree 100%.. What's weird is how they align with one sort of thinking all the way through. I guess you could say it about the other side, but I find it odd there aren't people in politics, or those who have a high profile that might be pro-Democrat on half the issues, and pro-Republican on other issues, and I don't just mean economics vs. social issues. Part of this problem is that the center-line is already so far to the right, that many support certain parties just by default.
For me, it's priorities. I wish there were no guns, but we're not starting from this second. We not only have a history, but we have more guns than people, so that issue is not only moot, but is used by politicians as raw meat for the base, while nothing is done. Ironically, it was Trump who banned bump stocks, and it was Trump who said that if 18-yr olds couldn't carry hand-guns then it doesn't make sense for them to carry AR-15s, but Wayne LaPierre (just the same when I think about gun lobbyists!) told him he'd lose support/election if he tried… The next time I see my cousin I'll piss him off by acting sincere and telling him he's a Obama supporter (or maybe I can use it as a pejorative a minute later) because he's a gun nut (shouldn't he dislike Trump then?), constantly talking about immigration (Obama was the deporter-in-chief), weird hate for Muslims (Obama started/bombed a handful of Muslim countries) while any murmur about a Christian sets him off, not being aware of his double-standards. I am seriously disappointed with the Israelis. After surviving the Holocaust, you'd imagine most Jews would be the last people to oppress another group. But I suppose we are a foolish and vicious species, given to mutual extermination. Hobbes was probably right.

It's my board persona. I really enjoy insulting my opponents. In the classroom I'm the personification of diplomatic rectitude. It is my considered opinion, though, that pro-gun types are illiterate morons. Also, pro-Israeli types are ****ing idiots.

It reminds me of this Nidii guy who always makes an ardent defense for Israel. Okay, fine, I understand his argument even if I disagree with it. But then he starts claiming anyone who disagrees with him is an "idiot" and a "troll". Sorry, that just makes him look ridiculous and his argument carries less weight.
It's the same with Bentley. A better liberal advocate is Corwin or Cerridwen. They're calm and don't get crazy. Bentley goes off the wall. No one is "destroying" anyone. People just disagree.

Soul Venom can be out there sometimes and doesn't make the best defense for his arguments. MMC2 is in no way senile. He's a decent guy, just annoying.
I didn't read the gun thread. But I find it hard to believe that Rocket is destroying anybody.
I think Bentley is so partisan that he's not the best one to do commentary on this great filmboards gun debate.
