That brings to mind Dan Bern's music. Do you know it? I used to listen to WFUV, Fordham University's radio station. They loved him and played him a ton.

Yeah. I got introduced to them at 12 years old from a 120 Minutes compilation I got from an older sister. That comp. actually was a big influence on the music I listen to. This is the one:

There is still great music, but almost none can be found in the mainstream anymore. You have more exposure to great artists now because of the internet. Without it, I would have never found out about Vic Chesnutt.
Maybe eventually, like the way 80's underground music broke into the mainstream in the 80's, the great stuff in the indie scene now will become mainstream sooner or later. Either way, it's out there.
