LOVED D9, and was hoping to enjoy this just as much, if not more. Gravely disappointed. The plot was overly contrived and VERY derivative. Beautifully shot and rendered, though. Still haven't seen Chappy, but this film will probably be the reason why I'm hesitant to do so.
Come quietly, or there will betrouble.

This is typically the case when pimping leftist propaganda take precedent over telling a story.

Elysium suffered from something all Blomkamp movies have. The first half is great, the world and the characters are wonderfully set up, but once something has to happen plot-wise and character-wise the movies just fall apart. District 9 fared better than Elysium but it still had the same problem. Also, granted this is a petpeeve of mine, but I'm really tired of the "something dramatic is happening so let's add that vaguely ethnic singer going nyaaaaaahaaaahaaaa" trope.

As another D9 fan, imagine my disappointment as I watched it, hated it, then realized it was a Neill Blomkamp film.
Yeah, it was pretty messy. Haven't seen "Chappie" yet but I read somewhere that he claimed to have learned from his "Elysium" mistakes for that one.
Ignorance is bliss 'til it posts on the Internet, then, it's annoying.
