In the horrendous final act, the last sliver of uncrowded, clean land is invaded by untold thousands, perhaps millions of people, who raid all the medical supplies. These supplies are sure to do little to make even a slight dent in Earth's problems. Essentially the ridiculously "happy" ending is actually the final nail in the coffin of the human race.

Agreed. I considered it one of the saddest most depressing endings I have ever seen. This free perfect healthcare will make the massive problem of overpopulation even far worse and mean the end of mankind. But hey! At least they weren't racist any more

I believe the film is a straightforward allegory for the inequity of access to services in the USA. The failing of the state of its own citizens.

There's a dichotomy at play:
What (I believe) the intent of the film maker is.
versus
What could reasonably be expected to occur.

I find it hilarious how some call this movie "Liberal Propaganda" when it's exact opposite. It shows you exactly what will happen of the US if this illegal immigration from Mexico continues. Souther US will become a giant 3rd world dump.

The tables still have to be powered by something. Unless they can magically create energy out of thin air, the shuttles would have to return to Elysium periodically to recharge, which would probably put a drain on Elysium's power generation, leading to problems on the station and eventually an inability to charge the shuttles.
The problem a lot of people have had with
Elysium
since the film opened in 2012 is that they look at the technology in the film from today's reality. The story in
Elysium
takes place 156 years in the future. We have
no
idea what power sources have been created or discovered. Again the story in
Elysium
takes place 156 years in the future. Try to picture in your mind what technology existed in America 156 years ago and how far we have come today. People 156 years ago would have said you were crazy if you went back in time and told them about the creations and technology in place today. They would say it was impossible.

With the other technological advances depicted they could reasonably be assumed to have efficient and abundant energy sources as well, such as LFTR or even more advanced nuclear, solar, etc.
Robotics were advanced as well so the factory using lots of human labor seemed silly. But of course the social advances were nil or negative. And plot line

What "supplies" are you talking about? Those ships contained miracle tables that atomically restructure any physical disorders (except brain damage) to perfect health. Even a caved-in face was restored in seconds. All one has to do is walk or be carried to a table to walk away in perfect health. No drugs or further supplies needed. All that's needed are orderly cues/lines and the droids are there to enforce those. There are no shortages of healing either. Everyone gets totally fixed once they reach the front of the line.
