When I first saw this scene, I said "This must be the way it is handled in the Navy/Military" and I was right. I lived in USA as a foreigner over a decade and I know how professional they do things in general. I actually love their professionalism in almost every thing they do. Also, I think this was the best scene in the movie in my book and Tom hanks and Chief O'Brien played their parts perfectly. This is military and they have to get things done fast without showing to much emotion. I think in A real life situation, they ask these questions to see how you are functioning both physically and mentally. I absolutely loved the procedure and how professionally it was handled. She was nowhere near irritating and that never went through my mind. Greetings and respect to all US Military personnel.
Bty, she is not an actress but a real Navy Woman:
http://hamptonroads.com/2013/10/change-puts-navy-woman-facetoface-tom-hanks
At the end of the article, it says "They wanted to know: "Who's the girl?"" was a great surprise. Who knows maybe she will be an actor after her contract is over

Yes, I ultimately did find it irritating. And before anyone jumps me over that: I have worked on trauma teams, worked in multiple ER's, and worked with patients who were in hostage situations. Further, my father did three years of combat medicine in the Pacific, and my mother is herself a Navy veteran of WWII.
I think it is important to be human and reassuring to people, and there are ways to do that even while you are doing the crucial work of locating wounds, etc. I thought her tone was somewhat cold and condescending.

Oh indeed. I am sure that is the case - every organization [also every group, race, nationality, religionetc, etc, etc] has good and bad apples.
This is simply human nature.
Still, the one difference in the Armed Services I feel is that even Armed Services goofballs may one day have to put their lives on the line.
Something most folks will never ever have to face.
In large part because folks like you are willing to do it for us.
This is what too many people really seem to forget.

His Daddy_Tej account is likely his primary.
It was formerly Grondig66, then he changed the name of it. All of his former posts under Grondig66 (that haven't been deleted by Admin) are now the Daddy_Tej name.
Most of his other sockpuppet names popped up about the same time as well. Apparently he is on some sort of Indian fetish at the moment.
And the Grondig66 account only started when his previous account was shut down in its entirety by IMDb, That name was TheGreatMoghul.

Exactly. the instant I saw her in film and she started in with her scene I KNEW right then she was not an actress but the real deal. Calm and Professional.
We do have all kinds in the Navy though as there is in Any Military force. From your professional sailors and hard workers, to a few slack-offs just skating by doing the minimum, Problem Children. You'll find intelligence and goof-balls.

I am an American citizen, born and raised in NYC. I have zero military training. I am basically a landlubber.
I have thankfully never been in any kind of life-threatening, traumatic situation at all, let alone a predicament like Phillips was in.
HM2 Danielle Albert, USS Truxton is EXACTLY the kind of calm, competent, reassuring professional I would want helping me were I in this situation.
She is the epitome of what I always thought the best of our American armed service personnel represents.
Don't even get me started on the brilliant technical proficiency and bravery of every single American service personnel involved in the rescue operation. Not to mention the sheer logistical complexity of getting that many people to focus and resolve a single, immensely intricate, high-stakes operation.
Life isn't a movie.
Too many people on imdb seem to forget that and of course they then exaggerate their own imaginations of how they think they might react in such fantastical situations as the one in this film.
Reality, especially in the way Corpsman O'Brien was portrayed in the film is just too boringly professional for the fantasy expectations of armchair imdb film viewers.
The sad part is that too many folks here on imdb apparently don't understand that that's exactly the way some things need to be.
Sidenote:
If indeed you are one, profound and continuing thanks to you CGSailor and all of your US Armed Services personnel across the world for doing what you do.
