Only if you knew the outcome of this true story.
Many piracy's of course end up differently. Every year. In films based on other piracy's Would they too have been predictable to you too? You could tell which victims would survive, which will die? If so, I'm impressed

Very overrated I got bored after they took him hostage. I was shocked it's rated so highly on here, though I suppose as most on these message boards say you can't trust the IMDB ratings.

I agree it's quite compelling until the pirates get on board and eventually take Captain Phillips hostage in the lifeboat. It then becomes tedious for an hour until the baddies get snuffed and the head pirate taken down. The meat of the story can be summed up in just a few lines/scenes.
"I don't like the look of that"
"Captain, they're coming back"
"Look at me, I'm the captain now"
"The elders are coming"
"Stop the tow Execute!"
"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!"
"Captain Phillips is free. All your friends are dead"
It's funny when they tell Muse "You're going to America" (instead of being dead with his friends or sent back to Somalia). I was almost expecting him to jump up, smile and say "HI FIVE!" like Borat.

I actually liked the film; I thought Hanks and Abdi were excellent, very well-deserved Oscar nods. However, I also thought the last 30 minutes dragged on and I did want things to wrap up. I knew it was a true story, so I assumed Phillips would survive, but it seemed to me that the suspense factor should have been ramped up a bit more towards the end, but it seemed to be the opposite. Good film, all the same, but could have been benefited from some better editing. At the end, I just felt incredibly angry that thugs like this are out there terrorizing innocent people who are just trying to do their jobs.

This movie was just awful. Boring, too long and not really a story.

This whole story, from beginning to end, kept me and the audience I saw it with on the edge of our seats.
You learned nothing?
This is a true story, and I learned a lot from this film.
I got a real life insight into how the Navy and the Seals coordinated this rescue operation.
I learned the protocol of how a captain is supposed to react and protect his crew when his ship is being hijacked.
I was reminded of the desperation of the people in Somalia who have little to no hope of living decent lives.
I also learned that seeing a movie show a hero dealing with PTSD, instead of partying with his rescuers, is a heart wrenching and sobering reality.
And, if nothing else, I learned that Tom Hanks is still an extraordinary actor.
To the OP:
This movie got dull after the pirates boarded the ship?
You found the tense hunt for the other crew hiding in the engine room dull?
You thought that all of the intense scenes of the pirates fighting in the lifeboat to determine Phillips' fate dull?
And when Phillips desperately jumped into the ocean and was trying to evade their gunfire, that was dull?
What about the tension as the Seals tried lining up all 3 shots without killing Phillips? That was dull?
Do you have a pulse?

You didn't watch the film and you probably don't have a girlfriend.
I did watch the film and, although I never suffer with boredom, I do think the film is overrated.
Nothing really happens and I learnt nothing from the film. The only really dramatic piece of acting happens with Hanks and the (real) female medical officer (who seems very good at her job).

The "little boat" has an obscure name you've probably never heard of- lifeboat.
