First off I'm pretty sure that should of completely disintegrated the ship with a direct hit, and even if it did not do that it should of at least killed all of the aliens whom being orgainic life forms would of definitely been killed by the massive amounts of radiation. or am i incorrect in thinking this?

I was thinking organic machines for the Aliens - with a huge ability to self repair and largly immune to any for of radiation. Though I was amused to find myself thinking these things through as I watch the film - sometimes I think I've read too much science fiction.

Cockroaches don't die from radiation easily. On top of that I am not so sure what we saw was the aliens. To me it felt like those were machines, possibly with the true aliens in orbit or even furhter away.
