With better acting and and a more solid plot, this movie could have been soooo much better and popular. With that being said, I still consider myself as a fan of it.
Things I thought were good about it.
The creative differences in the aliens. Such as the types of them like, the tanker, scout, soldiers, pilots. I also like how they use a lure to get the people.
The end, I thought was creative, original. They win, we lose. The inside of the ship was creepy and uncomfortable and I liked that. The credits scenes were more of a sequel set up and to give a sense of possible hope. Also the civilian view of the event is something that was cool too. The action scenes were not too bad either.
Things I didn't like about it.
The acting and characters. They weren't the brightest of characters and weren't acted too well either. Since thats almost the whole movie, it becomes a problem and distracting. The music isnt all that memorable either.
Despite these major flaws, I still enjoy the movie and consider it a bit underrated.

Good input on the movie, I agree completely.
Massively disappointed about the sequel though, since it's not even going to be connected to the original film.
Boycott movies that involve real animal violence (& their directors)

it seems a bit underrated. I agree there are good points and bad points.
Concerning the criticism of the characters, I was annoyed at first, but it comes out it is a mild satire on the shallow lives of socialites living in Los Angeles. They are people refusing to grow up and make commitments, as evidenced in the partying, the adultery and the refusal to accept parenthood.
What could then be a point of criticism is that these characters are then punished in the worst possible way for their sins, and so it it seems old Testament in it its lecturing of morality.
However, it was refreshing to see a monster movie that takes place in day light with no shaky cam. Some of the action scenes were original too. I never thought a Stealth bomber could be so maneuverable.
I agree the music was generic, I think I've heard that score before in some other movie. Basic Instinct?

I spent the entire film thinking, "they're not going to show us what happens to the harvested_humans; are they?!?"
Never been more happy to be wrong.
Agreed, underrated.
Enjoy these words, for one day they'll be gone All of them.
