I definitely see your point, and it isn't weightless. We gravitate towards leadership, in any way shape or form, but most commonly we gravitate towards "one" source or resolution. Because our brains desperately search for patterns and explanations, we tend to be tribal and superstitious.

When I watch movies like this, I don't think of race like at all. It makes me sad that these people have to be murdered, raped, beaten up, KILLED by idiots with guns and people like you sit around their computers talking crap about race and how white people should stay out of foreign affairs. Who cares what color you are or if you're a Christian helping people out. At least someone is. You aren't are you? No instead, you are downgrading those who in real life, are fighting for these people regardless if their a different race than them.
And The Help? Really? That movie was about maids finally speaking up for themselves and telling the truth about how white families treat them. How is that bad?
Also, get over yourself. Movies like this will continue to get made. It inspires people (not only white people) to go out and make a difference even if it's the smallest difference like donating to those in need in America and other countries.

But really, your post insinuates that no other country makes movies with a lead actor that represents its own racial majority as a hero. Is that why African tribes have oral traditions that have Chinese Heros? Or maybe you're going to say 'i said interfering in FOREIGN affairs'? Not all countries have the wealth, backbone or morality to help defend innocents from bad peopleCertainly not most of the countries of Africa.
For the record, I do agree that American government sticks its nose and manipulates other country's affairs for its own benefit, but I refuse to believe that's the case 100% of the time. That's the government and NOT INDIVIDUALS like the guy in this film.

Young black folk are constrained by adults of their own race. It's a herd mentality. Young black kids who 'speak proper' are endlessly mocked and degraded. Blacks of all ages are considered 'not black enough' if they are accused of 'acting white', again because they may speak proper, have political views that the media has portrayed as belonging mostly to white males, dressing 'white' etc. Then, grown black folk still can't shake the chains applied to.them from other blacks because when they hold individual views they're called 'uncle Toms'.Such a great 'can do culture'. So now we have throngs of black kids 'actin gangsta' so that they're considered 'black enough' by their own people. Disgusting. Blacks aren't doing anything about that, but even though they're the largest fastest growing hiv rates because of men on the DL having sex with other men then carrying it back to their women, they are up in arms about 'gay marriage'. At least whites even try.

Well first, I want to applaud peachie_keen for showing incredible tenacity and patience, hosting a discussion with a racist moron who can't spell. I couldn't do that!
Not to steal his thunder, Icebox made some good points. I'm going to play the devil's advocate and say he's right- these movies are tedious and it would be unfortunate if mover-goers (of a certain HUE) were to conclude that their existence is a gift from god and that none of the ethnic peoples of the Earth could live without them. Unfortunate indeed.
However, on the flip side of things- there are many, (whites included) who will see the film as it was hopefully intended to be viewed: a movie about a man who wanted to help. That's it. He just wanted to help. That is what I want to believe. That's a world that needs to exist. Man assisting his fellow man with no bias with regards to race or religion. That world has yet come to pass but we can hope. Alas, my hippy liberal-ness is showing.
I want to conclude with the fact that the poster (e-mail and some numbers) needs to do some research before spewing American elitist propaganda upon these boards. America isn't innocent and has yet to atone for crimes against its indigenous people and the African slaves that worked 400 years without pay and should be credited with the building of the country. The American Indian is a shadow of what he might have been before his culture, livelihood and most often times his very life were shattered by the colonization of the white man. We won't even get started on issues of Africans in America now, racism against whites (lol, tell us that when you've been oppressed for hundreds of years) or the foolish assumption that racism no longer exists- because it does. Only now you can sue, so the racists aren't so openly vocal about it. Tra la la la la.
If America sends aid somewhere else then let it: its the very least they can do.
Now I'm done. Oh and I liked the movie. I try not to see it as a WHITE man helping the poor black children but rather, a man helping innocent children who have and currently are undergoing conditions that are terrifying beyond description. Tipping my tiara for Sam.

Check your history books, this is a tale as old as time. The adaptation of these stories into films is relatively new, but Europeans (white man) marching across the four corners of the globe destroying all in their path in the name of a god goes back as far as recorded history. This behaviour isn't just reserved for Europeans either, and not necessary just in the name of a religion. Man has always had an atrocious aptitude for rationalizing the most heinous of behaviours by justifying their actions with some cause or another.

Finally, there are plenty of Christians and other spiritual groups doing all kind of good in Africa and elsewere. They build wells for water, bring food, and medical supplies. Doctors donate their time etc. A lot of Christian groups and volunteers come in immediately after disasters such as Katrina, Tornadoes etc. These folks have a burning desire to help others even if it means injury, death etc. to themselves.
BTW, I'm not sure what movies this guy is sick of. I haven't seen too many "born again white men" movies about anything, let alone those that have these men killing for fun, or in the name of God etc.

Your comment makes no sense. The only people he killed were the pricks killing the villagers (including the kids) because they were/are hell-bent on power, control and blood-lust. His defense of the defenseless (yes even with a gun) is just a fraction of the story. The fact that anyone risked their lives to help those kids is commendable. You know who else thinks he's a good man THE VILLAGERS, THE KIDS, and MOST OF AFRICA. The real Machine Gun Preacher is still helping people today! So you're saying because he was white that he should have let the militants kill him, the villagers, and the kids so he wouldn't offend you?
