No way, there is no such a thing. A film may be released with the knowledge that it will not make much money but this film didn't just make any money; it LOST money. No-one loses intentionally so much money on a film or any venture, no-one.

It only opened on four screens. It wasn't released to make money, that was never the intention. It was essentially the producer's 30m Donation to Sam's cause to raise awareness of what was going on down there.

I liked it, because I didnt see "preacher" as a protagonist, but rather as nutcase who is taking religious paradoxes way to far. Just, waiting for him to go full mental and become the new self-appointed savior: Kony v2.0

That is downright sadthis movie was very movingbased on the life of this man who is doing good in the world. What I want to know is what is the United States doing about this Sudan area? I have not reseached it yet, but I hope something BIG. We send money all around the world, I hope it helps these people shown in this movie. I think the title of the movie put people off.

Films with dubious prospects like this one are often given a trial period. If they do well, they're given wider distribution. This one didn't do well.

It cam't make money at the box office if it's not released to the box office. That's just common logic.

I really liked the movie but judging by the title i expected a very brutal action comedy something like for instance Hobo w/a shotgun

This is the nickname of the main character, Sam Childers. He is known as The Machine Gun Preacher. But, I agree; this title may have turned some people off. The title of Sam's book is Another Man's War. This would have been a much better title.

Even my local theater that shows a lot of limited release movies only showed MGP for one or two weeks. The bad reviews didn't help.

Yea it was only released in 96 theaters.
