Or perhaps think Lovecraft's works "aren't horror" on account there's no contribution by the supernatural forces until the last sentence?
Examples include Pickman's Model, possibly Cool Air is the other I'm thinking of, and I have only read maybe 1/4-1/3 of my necronomicon (the big Lovecraft book), so there's many more.
Because this movie is probably for being the closest to capturing how a Lovecraft story feels.
Yes, there's drama in "Absentia" - but, because its story involves people encountering something which fighting is completely hopeless, that's pretty much the only way it can work, for a film anyway.

It's awesome seeing such low budget movies be more impactful than big budget jump scare fests
Yeah, that's usually been the case with some horror filmsthe little unknown low-budget horror flicks influencing (and being ripped off sometimes) by the bigger budgeted ones that get more hype. I love well-made low budgets films on any genre. I came here mainly because I just recently saw a good horror film called HUSH, looked up the director's work to see what else he'd done, and this film sounds interesting from all the descriptions I've read so far. I also used to be into Lovecraft stories back in the day, so all these comparisons of the film to his stories definitely make it sound even more interestingenough for me to want to check it out.

If you want to see a good recent horror film (with a similarly low-budget) which has Lovecraftian elements, check out The Borderlands from last year. Absentia isn't bad because of the themes it deals with, it's bad because it's appallingly amateurish and the (actually quite large) budget has nothing to do with that, it has to do with incompetent filmmaking.

Oh right. "Garbage". I know people think saying something is [synonym for "bad" here] actually amounts to making a point, but it doesn't. Boy, for a movie "discussion" forum, too many people don't know how to discuss things.
This is one of closest movies to a Lovecraft story. None of the ACTUAL adaptations have shown any understanding of how Lovecraft stories work.
Or did you think Lovecraft's stories were like those "Lovecraft for Dummies" movies like From Beyond and In the Mouth of Madness?
