The opposite actually. The witch should have been beautiful at her optimal form, but Julia Roberts looks doesn't even come close to that.

As others have said she's meant to be very beautiful, otherwise how could she be the fairest in the land?
Also it's good to buck the stereotype of ugly, evil witches. Why does evil have to equate ugly and vice versa?
These days we seem to have more rounded 3 dimensional characters in kids films anyway-,eg elsa and malificent.

My only qualm related to Julia's role in this movie is that she's probably one of the most beautiful actors in Hollywood & while Lily Collins is very pretty I don't think she'd ever be prettier that Julia.

Have you read Snow White or seen the cartoon before? The witch is always beautiful, she's the most beautiful women and then Snow White is born and as she grows up she becomes the most beautiful in the land. So that's why the queen wants to get rid of her in the original tale. Nowadays I think a lot of the updated stories (Snow White & The Huntsman and Once Upon A Time) take the story and make it about something else such as power or revenge.

I don't wish to be rude or hurtful but I wonder if the OP actually knows or understands the story of Snow White. The Queen/Witch is supposed to be beautiful. She is the most beautiful woman in the land - with the only exception being Snow White. Hence her jealousy and, you know, the ENTIRE PLOT.

The Evil Queen is suppose to be beautiful. As others mentioned she has been played by beauties like Lana Parilla and Charlize Theron and the Disney animated version of her was also beautiful.

No I don't think she was too pretty. 1. The Queen was never supposed to be ugly 2. I really believed that someone who looked like Julia would be jealous of a girl who looks like Lily. 3. Like the other poster said witches are not always ugly even if they are bad.
