Had to keep it like that so that when he said you won't see me again, Carli could have the punchline of sorts by pointing out the times in the future where their paths will have to cross such as his mom's and his brother's birthday.
Could they have taken the route of Simon going off on Carli? Probably. However, this way they had a comic scenario set up that was easy to use and subverted the classic breakup line where one person says "you'll never see me again" or something to that effect.

Not really. Simon just realized what Carli was doingto him is the same thing he was doing to Lucy.

Simon isn't a nice guy. Is Carli a b tch for using him to get back at that guy? Absolutely but since he encouraged Will to pretend to like Kerry to get a s ckjob he certainly isn't any nicer.

I despise his character with a passion. Disappointed he ended up with the bird he treated like crap for the entire film.

I was sick of his Carli obsession in the series, so it REALLY grated on my nerves in the movie that they had to keep this thread going.

I agree if nothing else than because even though I liked the movie they spent way too much time showing him whining about her. it became annoying.

I would have been out of character for him - totally.
Once the penny dropped - he wasnt go to waste any more time or effort with her.
She was shallow and selfish - anything Simon had to say to her would not have had any effect, so why would he bother.
