The androids come out in alphabetical order in the movies up until Covenant with Walter.
So Ash, Bishop, Call and then David
Then it was Walter and now Andy (And Rook!) and so the original magical thinking has been thrown to the wind
The crew were only ever to get infected and brought back in Alien, the porn mag attempted death of Ripley is just Ash being needless cruel

The crew were expendable. Capturing the alien was the only real mission for Ash. He had been reallocated to the crew just before setting off and so the whole thing was a set-up by the company
