Because most television shows don't like promoting the message that a gun is useful in a crisis.
It is, in reality, especially with training. I know plenty of cops who aren't good with a gun in a crisis situation, but plenty of citizens who have three times the practice with a firearm than the police actually have.
There are a lot of instances of police shooting wildly and hitting bystanders in a situation where they need to shoot carefully. It's mostly due to the fact that they tend to not offer enough money and time incentives for cops to shoot at a range.
We like to think all cops are going to be well trained with a deadly weapon, but sadly your neighborhood "gun nut" is likely a better shot than 2/3rds of your local police department simply due to the fact that he practices more regularly and has taken more courses to become a better shooter.
It's one of the biggest problems in the United States right now when discussing what the real problem is with our police departments. They simply aren't putting money into training them before setting them loose on the streets. Most of the wrongful shooting cases are rookie involved, and you almost never see them happen with a 12 year veteran as their partner. With what we pay them, we don't have much incentive for a cop to stay on the streets longer than 7 years.

Nobody believes their story. They think they made the entire thing up. However, with the kind of producer he is, he would love for there to be a killing for ratings.

It does seem odd. I figured if nobody else, the guy who ran the show should have brought a shotgun or at least a cell phone to his little trailer in the woods for when Agnes actually showed up the way he had hoped.
I know there's a stereotype in Hollywood, but there are plenty of celebrities who either carry personally, or hire a guard to carry on their behalf. Very odd that nobody thought about having something before venturing out into the killer filled forest.

I'm actually surprised more of them weren't armedespecially Matt and Shelby. I would have at least had a bottle of Holy Water and a crucifix or something, if not a weapon!

I'm positively floored that they not only had someone have a gun, but they used it properly.
It's nice to see something like that where it doesn't just end with shooting the wrong person or themselves in the foot.
