It's too thespianic and over the top. But as I said beforeit's "bad" but like it's being done intentionally. Not because Kathy Bates is a bad actress who can't do an accent. She's plenty good at accentsI've been a fan of hers for many years. She's playing the part of a bad actress who is a crazy woman who thinks she is the character she was portraying. I don't think she's supposed be playing Meryl Streep hereor even playing Kathy Bates!

No, it's bad. I think it's supposed to be bad on purpose. Although tonight I thought it was bad in an amusing way when Sidney got Agnes to crack and she reverted back to the Butcher persona. Loved her hanging over the balcony of her apartment complex (or was it a retirement home, I couldn't tell?) Her little feet didn't even touch the ground! I absolutely thought Kathy's scene stole the show!

I don't think it's fair to call Bate's accent bad. I've taken courses in medieval and renaissance English and the accent of that sounds similar to Bate's. That's the accent early English colonists would have had. I think because it's unfamiliar and sounds drawn out in strange wayslike when she says "blud" for bloodpeople think it's bad.

Gaga had a better accent than Kathy Bates that says a lot.

Actually, I'm not really a big fan of Sarah Paulson. I really just think the bad accents are on purpose. I agree with you about Kathy BatesI've loved her for years and she has been using a bad accent this entire time for the Butcher. And Wes Bently's accentgood grief that's bad. But I haven't really let that mar my enjoyment of the show. I actually thought Sarah's bad British accent was a hoot!

Like i said in another thread, everyone is taking their accents too seriously. They're clearly not taking it as seriously as everyone else thinks they are

Thats just being an apologist for her awful awful performance. Sarah Paulson has zero charisma and is just a face on the screen, the fact that everyone on the internet acts like shes some tour de force is really annoying. She needs to wipe that stupid smug looking smile off her face that she has in every single scene and take a few more acting classes. Kathy Bates while not very impressive in her role in this show is an example of an actress who could pull of amazing things, Misery is a good example of that. Id like to see Paulson take on a role like that, she'd be so out of her league its not even funny but yet shes "the best actress of her generation" lots of people like to say its dumbfounding.

I really think they are supposed to be using really bad accents. I think it's part of the plotlike Sidney hired unknowns or bad actors or something.
