IMO they weren't very well written. That sucks, then why am I surprised to see poorly written female characters anymore? Perhaps they could have been better involved than just there for extra banter. At least that's how I saw it.
A couple of other things that bothered me about this otherwise good movie:
The part at the end where the gangbangers shoot the two leads characters. I thought the power of that scene was cheapened when backup finally arrived to "avenge" their demise. They were taunting and talking sht, it was emotionally quite powerful and the feeling of wanting them to meet justice and it not happening would have really deepened the reality of the film IMO. The gangbangers should have just walked off into the night not to be seen from again in the movie. The real world sucks, and in the real world cop killers aren't always caught. At least not conveniently for the audiences sake.
Also, and I'm going to get crap for this I know, but
Can Hollywood stop sucking the Marine Corps' cck? (Don't get me wrong, I've served beside many Marines and never met one I didn't like but they think they are way cooler than they actually are). It's gotten way too ridiculous. I know the Dept. of the Navy give the Marines X amount of money each year as apart of their budget and apparently they spend 85% of it showing the general public how "cool" they are and how "good" they look, while spending the rest giving their grunts sh*t equipment that the Army and Navy don't use anymore. I don't know, maybe I'm bitter.
Other than that I enjoyed the film. The banter was amusing, it brought back some fun memories for me. Also I didn't see it as cop propaganda or anything like that. Just kinda like a darker version of that show: LAPD Life on the Beat. lol
"Let's get out of here before one of those things kills Guy!"

Yeah I agree, kind of looked like their story was cut. Some of their lines didnt make sense and you had to assume a back story was there. Just kind of weird and pointless.

It was all affirmative actionjust like real life!
As for being sick of Marinesas a Marine, all I can say is that you're jealous that Hollywood establishes a character as more capable than normal by having them being a Marineor S.E.A.L. There's good evidence of the die hard nature and can-do attitudes from both in real lifeTHAT's why Hollywood uses them.

No clue why America Ferrara took her role in this movie. She had nothing to do and it was a waste of her talent.
