I know it is a bit of a silly question, but at the opening scene where the chase takes place you can see a cat running across the back alley in front of the police vehicle and it looks like it actually got run over. They cut the scene in such a way so you really don't see if it did get run over or not. Is there any info on this?

Don't worry, it was a trained professional stunt cat.

Yeah, I noticed that cat too. I saw it quickly move to the side onto a neighbour's garage area so no, I don't think it got killed.
There are no problems that cannot be solved with a can of brake clean and a lighter

Noticed that too, had it on endless rewind and step by step play to check where it came from, if it got out the way. I like to think it got away with one of its 9 lives gone.
Also, someone should do an edit of this scene with the Police Squad theme tune.

Did they post the disclaimer during the ending credits that no animals were actually harmed during the making of the movie? I haven't seen the film, but from the way you describe it, they probably did hit the feline albeit accidentally. May have been a stray that wandered into the set at the wrong time.
