I know some people will bash me for this, but IMO this film could have been better served by a more racially diverse cast. Hollywood is the worst at upholding this kind of institutionalized thinking.

I agree. Representation matters.

Why does every film "need" diversity? In what way would that have improved the film?
I agree that when it makes sense, there should be some culturally/ethnically diverse casting. A lot of people criticize the show Friends for taking place in NYC but very rarely showing anything but a white face. And that I agree with. It would have made more sense for that show to have featured a more diverse group of people.
But this movie took place at an artsy, seemingly small college in Ohio. You're probably not going to see a lot of diversity there.
Not trying to bash you, but I just don't see what the difference would have been in this particular instance.

The roommate was the only non-White person in this film that I can remember.

I don't know what school this was modeled after though I've heard some suggestions but any Eastern established LAC should not have much diversity because they don't.
