John Mahoney is a good idea. But it should definitely be someone that looks like the grandfatherly type, so the reveal of who he truly is is more shocking to those unfamiliar with the story.

I always like James Whitmore for the role by he passed away.
He played Brooks Hatlen in The Shawshank Redemption.

The show is scheduled to run for several seasons. Season 1 ends at the House on the Rock which is before Hinzelmann appears so presumably he'll be cast in time for season 2.

Is he even going to be in this? When I saw they didn't cast him I assumed they just cut him out Which makes sense, as it may be hard to run the Lakeside storyline alongside the main storyline in a 10 episode season.

Will reading the book I always pictured someone similar to Jack Nance - RIP (Pete in Twin Peaks) or John Mahoney as Martin Crane in Frasier

IKR? When I first saw him as William Hartnell I could not believe my eyes. And he's pretty nice a character in The Strain too.

He certainly has the right looks and demeanor, but it would be so strange to see him trying to act as someone likeable after his previous famous roles

I always thought John Bluthal (Dark City, Fifth Element, Vicar of Dibley) would make an excellent job of the character. But AFAIK he's retired (well, he is 87).
