This isn't a moviethis is a video game with the controller on autopilot. Banal plot with banal characters. I expect the remake will simply be called "Level 2"the exact same movie with the bad guys carrying pistols instead of machetes. Level 3 - Uzis, Level 4 - bazookas, etc I really lost faith in IMDB ratings with this "movie."

yh same here, my brother bought it and we watched it. he enjoyed it, i didn't. in places it was brutal, but overall it didn't feel as overly violent as everyone said it was. i found Warrior King with Tony Jaa more brutal and theres a damn site less blood, plus they at least tried to make a story in Warrior King, in The Raid its pretty much none existant. i liked some of it, the action was quite well done, but i wanted some likable characters, not cardboard cut outs that kick things. if other people liked the film, thats fine, i just think theres a lot of better martial arts films out there.
a creative mess is better than idle tidyness.

I just bought this on bluray last night and watched it for the first time, it was epic.. Im a huge action film buff, im a huge film buff period. It comes down to you as an individual.
are you the type of person who feels you are owed? At all times?
or
are you the type of person who can subjectivly sit back and enjoy something without questioning, dissecting, or ripping apart ANY MOVIE?
This is the problem i have with this website and the general movie going public in general..
Half the people on here can enjoy a movie, knowing exactly that an international action movie such as this will not have the greatest story but will far surpass the action in most Hollywood movies
The other half for some reason has this elitist attitude that this movie and many others are beneath them, they rate the movie low, and they complain on the boards as if their complaints really make that much of a difference to anyone as if suddenly we all will see things the way they do, and thank them for our years of stupidity and ignorance I find this half of people pathetic
and the thing that i find the funniest is 90% of them are either teenagers, or some beep who sits around all day and does nothing but bash good/popular movies simply because others like them, what movies do they like? They never tell you.. prolly for a reason
Some of you seriously need to get a life and pop your head out of your oh so tight beep

I've been anticipating seeing this movie for months after seeing the trailer and reading the reviews etc. I finally watched it about a week ago, and enjoyed it but was left feeling vaguely disappointed for some reason. I'm guessing it was all the hype, which of course, can't live up to reality most of the time. I wish I could have seen it "cold" so to speak instead.

This is a movie. It's not suppose to have an insanely good plot with a shocking twist ending, or incredible dialogue. It has a 7.8 because of how good of an action film it is. Amazingly choreographed fights, you can't deny that you felt at least a bit of a tingle every time a fight broke out.

I said a lot of the viewers, not all of them, are lovers of video game action. Since the movie greatly delivers on this particular type of action these viewers accordingly are giving high rates. Bringing the number up.
Yeah, you keep saying that, but you can't back it up. You're just making beep up because you don't like the movie, and have to come up with some dumb excuse for its high rating.
And using terms like ''video game action'' is pretty pointless. It's the same as saying something has ''movie action''. I still don't know what kind of action you're talking about. It's too broad.
Critics can indeed appreciate video game action too. And nowhere have I said that other elements have no part in the fine rating this movie has.
Idiotic however would be to think that the action is merely martial arts related.

This isn't Video Game action, it's martial arts and dates back to the Bruce Lee and Sonny Chiba days. Calling it Video Game action is just wrong.
The Resident Evil movies, the Underworld movies, pretty much any Paul W.S. Anderson, Len Weisman, or MCG movie classifies as Video Game action. The Matrix has Video Game action too. The Raid is not wire-fu in front of a green screen, it is classic martial arts choreography and stunt work.
