I seriously loved Dredd 3d. Would i like this movie?

People compare the two because the basic premise and set up is the same. Law enforcement officers enter large building and find themselves trap inside fighting off wave after wave of enemies sent in by a crime lord.
However the big difference is that Dredd easily has more depth and substance to it while The Raid has more hand to hand action. First 1/3 of The Raid is all gun fighting then the next 2/3 is pretty much all close range combat. That's pretty much the big difference summed up. Though I could go into more details pointing out exactly how Dredd has more substance and the difference in action scenes.
That said I love both films alot but think Dredd is the better of the two films.
RIP AJ Cook's career. Her career dies everytime she's on the sh#t known as Criminal Minds.

I personally enjoyed this movie much more than Dredd. I thought Dredd was decent, particularly the cinematography, but the action wasn't anywhere near as exciting as in The Raid. The Raid was intense from its gun fights to melee combat, while Dredd had very little melee combat and the gun fights weren't all that impressive to me despite the voice activated ammo.

Saw The Raid first, then Dredd. Enjoyed the hell out of both of them for slightly different reasons. I think I'd give the edge to Dredd, not just for the moral reasons since The Raid appears to be ripping off the story, but I feel like Dredd had a little more going for it. Take the unreal awesome hand to hand combat out of The Raid, and you're left with a good action movie, but one that's ultimately forgettable.
The story in Dredd was felt more solid, the acting was better, and the Slo-Mo scenes were outstanding (especially in an altered state).
All that said, both fantastic movies. Just please don't make the same mistake most people online seem to make in calling Dredd a rip off of The Raid.

True, I guess there'll always be exceptions. I would have liked to see Matthew Vaughn back though, also I read the other day that the screenwriter for Kick-Ass, Jane Goldman, also isn't back for the sequel. I mean hopefully the new guy can pull it off but a lot of the charm of the original for me came down to how it was written (or adapted for the screen) and the well-handled mix of comedy/black humour and the more serious stuff, which I put down to Vaughn's Direction. Not to say that Jeff Wadlow won't be able to make it work for the sequel, I just think it'll be difficult to do the original justice.

Hmm, I didn't realize there was a new director, let alone such an untested one. Never Back Down isn't a bad movie, it plays it safe and is formulaic, but at least it's not terrible. Still, Matthew Vaughn had done two excellent films (Layer Cake and Stardust) before directing the original Kickass, so this seems like a bit of a concern.
I guess all we can do is hope for the best and enjoy the original in the meantime.

It's being Directed but some guy nobody's ever heard of, which is when I started losing hope. To me, if a series gets abandoned by the original Director for the sequel(s), it probably won't be any good and will seem more like a parody of the original. The only exception I can think to this off the top of my head is Alien/Aliens, but even then Alien3 came about and it started to go downhill.
I could be wrong though, the guy could be a genius and it could turn out to be super awesome. Hopefully it will do, but it would be a surprise (a pleasant surprise nonetheless) if it turns out to be good.

Hahahaha!
That's the most ridiculous test I've ever heard, but if it works, then it works! It wasn't by chance the L'Oreal 48H anti-perspirant? I've used that personally and I'm not sure if it is as effective as it says, but still, great test!
Kung Fu Hustle and Shoalin Soccer are fantastic, as is Kick-Ass (although I'm not holding any hopes for the sequel), Slumdog was good but I've only seen it once and haven't felt the need to see it again, and I haven't seen Apocalypto.
Watched Dredd last night, watching The Raid for a second time tonight, and whilst I thought Dredd was good I do love The Raid. I think Dredd has a better story though, second time watching The Raid I thought the handling of civilians by the cops was a bit naff, like too cliche, but who watches this film for that stuff eh?
The action is incredible, and plus there were some really tasty shots, like through the window handheld after a cop gets sniped and then through the hole in the floor after the main character goes down, really nice stuff. I kinda wish they had some really hardcore gear to make the shots smoother but Hollywood guys with that sh!t available don't seem to think outside the box a lot of the time.
I might try out this armpit test, even if just for lols. Great post!

I measure how good a movie is by how damp my armpits get whilst watching it.
I use a high-performance 48H anti-perspirant, so if I sweat, whilst just sitting down and watching a movie, then it must be filled with that much excitement and enjoyment as to produce such a bodily reaction.
And, boy, did the pits get damp with this movie!
The Raid 10/10.
Dredd - slightly less since the tension needed to be ramped up. 8/10.
Other movies that also passed the armpit test:
Kick-Ass
Slumdog Millionaire
Apocalypto
Kung Fu Hustle
Shoalin Soccer
.

I side with Dredd as the better movie. I feel that The Raid is good at getting that adrenalin going, but the story works better for Dredd in terms of internal consistency. The Raid just has too many moments where I was taken out of the movie because of strange character choices and too neatly choreographed martial arts.
