There was NO wife. There was no one waiting there for him. She was not real, just like in his dream. The army fed that into his mind.

People DO remember their pasts. That gun happy blonde girl said she was raised on a farm and did a lot of hunting growing up. Their memories of their past is NOT erased. At least not entirely.

I saw it as he chose to keep his memories. Now he is in 'prison' as they threatened and forced to relive 'all those murders' in a loop. I assume that the girl he is dreaming about is someone real from his past. When he is recruited into the military unit, they wipe his memory, but the dream sequence they give him (and the other soldiers) to relax is based off a real person from his past since they know he will react positively to her image and be attracted to her even if he doesn't remember who she is. They also never divulge how they recruit youpossibly convicts with no options in life and no more conection to the real world. That's probably why they had him act kinda lost and thuggish in the throwback scene showing his recruitment. I think his 'prison sentence' starts with him reliving something bad that happened between him and this women that led to his eventual recruitment. He has his memeories and cries because he not only now recognizes her, but knows he is about to relive something horrible. It's a full immersion punishemnt where they overlay reality with virtual images, sort of like the tech they used in battle. The car that drops him off probably eventually picks him up later for another stage in his sentencehence forced to relive all those murders in a loop. The first murder likely being that of the lady at the house

I understood that he chose to live a lie instead of suffering with the truth, but what now? Will he be squatting in that derelict house with no food? Sure, through MASS he sees a nice home and wife/gf (how things were?) but reality is reality. There's no food or water. As nice as it seems, he can't survive.
We've met before, haven't we?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he decided he couldn't live with knowing what he'd actually done, so he decided to have his Mass fixed and memory wiped.
I would imagine that the house he went to was his own house, but while it was in reality a piece of beep the Mass showed it as this charming little home. I don't think the woman was real at all, just the image of a hot woman implanted in his mind so he could have some imaginary sexy times.
Peter, is your social worker in that horse?
