I thought his performance was phenomenal and loved the character. I'm around many backpackers and they tend to be very similar to this guy.

His reaction is totaly fake and that put me off immediatelly. His acting in this particular scene was so very unnatural and unbelievable - all this prolonged uuhhs and ohhs and weird gesticulation. That was just bad acting.

WHAT? He gave one of the strongest performances of the series. Maybe you just hated his CHARACTER? His acting was COMPLETELY believable.

He is supposed to be slightly stupid and annoying - a "bro" type. We see more depth to him when he tells the girl about his parents.
But when the sht started getting real with that whole haunted mansion thing, he portrayed genuine fear and vulnerability beautifully.

I agree with the OP, and no, he does not remind me of anyone, except perhaps a little bit of the protagonist in 'The Thing' who played his role there perfectly and was very likeable.

I did not notice any worse actors being protagonists in the show than him.

The acting was great, there are plenty worse actors in the show, you just didn't like the character or his looks. It's really simple. He probably reminded you of an actor or celebrity/person you don't like.

I liked him too. Thought he was funny. Especially after the Sonja/giant spider attack happened, when he yelled "Katie!" in an exasperated voice. I was in tears. He was definitely a different lead than was seen in any of the other episodes, more comedic, but I found it enjoyable.

I agree. I thought he did great. Not my favorite episode but only because I was blown away by a few other episodes.

Thought he did great in that episode . Probably my favorite episode from season 3.

I know right? They could toned it down. Even small touches like swiping a few more faces and looking disappointed there's no match. And dressing the date and apartment to look less dream catalogue. Maybe have a couple of flatmates present. Just something to not make it so darn distracting!
