Teenagers spying on some poor old bastard with dementia who kills himself for no reason, and then the movie ends. What the hell was this movie about?

He didn't have dementia.. he ACTUALLY believed he was being haunted by his late wife, (so their "experiment" worked).. he KILLED himself because he HEARD the bell ringing, (and it was not where he had left it) making him believe she was calling for him.. Before she died he told her he would ALWAYS come for her when she rang it.. which is why he killed himself, to be with her.. it wasn't that difficult to follow..
