It is not unusual. My family got to a point where we could not eat together without an argument starting. I extracted myself from the situation by saying "Bonanza" and "The Big Valley" were on and I was thankfully excused (no one could have stopped me anyway - I'd have just left the house and eaten somehow somewhere else). So family BS at the dinner table, in some families, is a typical dinner. Probably because it is the one time everyone is together!
