Re: Her walking into town naked. I pretty much agree with what greg-goremykin said in the previous comment. Early on, and later, there are several mentions of the wildness of her own youth. I felt her actions (naked walk) were somehow related to punishing herself for her own reckless youthful behavior. Rather than baring her soul, she bared her body, which in some respects is more humiliating. She felt guilty and was convinced that her daughter's disappearance was a result of that behavior. I also think that her seeing what was in her daughter's diary was the trigger for her subsequent behavior toward both her husband and Rae.
As for her nudity, or not. It was a fairly long shot but it looked like it could be really her. The body, particularly with those long legs, and smallish breasts, certainly looked like it could have been her.

You could make out the vulva/outline of the labia majora, so it def. didn't look like a merkin or slice panty, whatever that is. It looked to me like a full CGI body, something about it didn't look real.
I disagree about the uselessness of the scene. If my scenario about what was going on between the lines is correct, she was wanted to feel the shame that walking down the main street of town would elicit in her to compensate for the shame and guilt that she should have been feeling because of her behavior and actions. It was a self-inflicted penance/punishment, and without the nudity, that point would not have gotten across to the audience.

as it is an american movie, we can also guess this :

• a slice panty with skin color and fur.
  I totaly think this scene was totaly useless for the movie.
  i guess it is for make the movie sell well.

So she had no stature until this film, as she appears to be naked in every other movie before this? And does this mean she was really desperate for a role early in her career when she took it all off?
Although, a body double could a smart move. I am not sure if she would be a sight to behold in her birthday suit at about 50 yrs?
