I have to disagree. Sure the filming was good, the effects were good, everything else (acting, script, etc) was some of the worst tripe I have seen. this is almost a characature of a gorefest. Even Romeros early work blows this away. Don't waste your time on this dreadful mess.

Very bad actors who would cast so many bad actors together, please?
There wasn't any decent actor in this movie or, at least, they were very bad directed by Eli Roth and didn't know how to make a poor script believable.

I thought the acting was horrible until they were in Peru and then either I was numb to the bad acting or I bought bought into the story enough to ignore it. That being said the awful acting I did notice lost it a few points.

I can imagine the producers saying, "hey, we need a vacuous, self centred, talentless cockwomble to play the part of the lead's roommate.let's just get sky ferreira to play herself"

Have some respect. Izzo is his wife. She was actually creepy good in "Knock Knock" and she was just fine here. She did what was necessary in the role.

Definitely the worst acting I've seen in a long time and indeed much harder to watch than the gore. If Roth is going to keep giving Lorenza Izzo roles because he's banging her the least he could do is pay for some acting lessons. I mean, why should we have to suffer just because he has a hard-on for this bimbo.

Haven't you heard the old expression, Acting doesn't matter in a horror film? If you want to see quality acting don't expect any from horror movies, they are cheap.

I think the girl who played Justine (who is by the way Eli Roth's wife :)) was great. Her quality of acting was far better than the movie as a whole. Other than that, yeah, these were definitely not the best actors, but even with that, it could have been a much better movie.

The worst was her blonde friend/roommate. She was just beyond.

Sorry, but the script must have sucked. No guns, but the students all take their time to switch their phones to international calling (there's cell phone towers out there?). The groups leader couldn't convince a ball to roll down a hill, yet they unquestionably follow him completely unprepared into a rain forest? He doesn't mention that it's life or death until they're already there? Not even a knife? A bunch of healthy young adults can't overpower a village of malnourished children, 3 or 4 men and women. The group leader gives up, just get eaten alive, no resistance what's so even? There's more, but I've already wasted enough time in this movie.

I thought Ariel Levy (Alejandro), Ignacia Allamand (Kara), and Nicolas Martinez (Daniel) were all pretty decent. I wish Ignacia would have been around longer.
I notice that the characters I found believable were not Americans. I think because the American characters all seemed so unprepared and just not realistic.
Much of the dialogue was stiff when trying to be funny, vocal fry is always annoying, and they were surprised they would have to beep in the woods and that the threat of gun violence would be real. I didn't find that believable at all. Except for Justine because she was new.

HmmI can't get behind this criticism. No one stood out as awful to me. They played characters and I believed those characters, end of story. I don't get the criticism at all, really.
