My pick for gloomiest is Leaving Las Vegas. I felt like jumping off a very high building after watching that.
But I don't know that I hate a movie more than Arrival.

I've seen other films that were gloomier. The Road, Eden's Log, Seven, The Lighthouse.
So many stories, so little time.
