While dumb ppl like you just come here give it a poor rating and starting a topic about the bad script, it was pointles, etc.. and you are saying it because you didn't understand what was going on. simple as that.

Wasn't a fan of it either. Kinda "meh" storytelling all the way through and then the payoff just wasn't there.

I totally feel the same about this movie. Seemed to missing things like an actual plot, point, direction and an ending.

Anybody who says "ppl" and "muh feels" shouldn't call anybody else dumb.

I really have to disagree with you statement that it was better than The Martian. Sure, The Martian wasn't thought provoking in any way but neither was Arrival. From a linguistic standpoint this was all pretty basic stuff and the non-linear time concept was so shallow that it's hardly worth mentioning.
BUT the difference between the two movies is that The Martian was at least a fun movie that should be able to entertain most people on a sunday couch night. Arrival was neither particularly clever nor was it fun to watch.

Definitely not fleshed out, it felt unfinished. The story mostly fits on a napkin, mostly, despite touching some interesting concepts. It's really a missed opportunity.
I found the portrayal of the trigger-happy powers that be quite moronic and full of cliche. Dumbass authorities and one hero that knows everything better. Now, where did we see that before?
The movie really pretended at times that the main character would be the only one smart enough to understand they don't want warthe worst cliche. As if all those nations would not even think about working together?
Forget about realism, it's got some interesting concepts that are not taken far enough to really make us think differently about anything. It's mostly of the "duh" kind, or it just remains vague and unanswered.
The way it was filmed was mostly underwhelming too. Very distant camera at times as if the maker didn't really care about emotions or backdrops.
It was an OK film, with an original angle. It's better than The Martian but kind of sits there with Interstellar in it's pretentiousness, with unfinished thoughts and ideas. Plus, I'm not really hearing any interesting philosophical question being raised. The maker seemed mostly preoccupied with his own fixed morality and simplistic, childish view of world politics.
A non-linear thinking and even living race is an interesting concept but the maker seemed too dull-minded to even scratch it's surface. It's like he backed out of it and decided for some cheap melodrama to cover it up at the end. Only an average intelligence is required here.
There's little correlation between intelligence and liking/disliking films. Some really smart people love blockbuster action, some dumb people like high concept films. I do hate the type of person that thinks he's smart because he "understands" films like this, or Inception, better than others. If you're really smart and have a great short term memory, keeping track of many plot details at once, go watch Primer.

Quite the opposite. There are no car chases, no explosions (well, one), no gunfire (well, a little, off-screen). It's just mostly dialog. And the protagonist is a woman.
It's a movie most dumb people (well, dumb males) will dislike.

To be fair, it's actually the other way around. This is a thread about how much the movie sucks and it's actually people who like it who post over and over again criticising people who didn't enjoy it.

Your trolling here about a film you have made clear you hate serves no purpose. People who post over and over criticizing people who enjoy a film are the worst sort of posters on IMDb. You add nothing. Perhaps you enjoy trying to make other people unhappy.
I suggest you find something better to do with your time, like talk about a movie you like. Assuming there are any.

As I said, it's for dumb ppl. It's a half baked concept that's only based on 'muh feels!'.
As a movie/film it's a major mess. Taking some random 'interesting' therum and wrapping a terrible story around it does not make it a 'smart' or successful film.

Your extremely poor literacy puts you in the dumb camp and therefore don't have the requisite intellect to understand the movie, hence this post.

But where's the suspense? Most of the haters just didn't feel it.
And the bomb scene, give me a break. How could they even put a bomb inside of it when you have to carry that thing (quite big and it looks heavy) without getting caught? I thought the security system supposed to be tight considering their safety were very well managed except for the two main characters.
Even La La Land has a bigger suspense than this.

From the linguistic point of view, this movie is a masterpiece.
It seemed to draw its ideas and concepts from my Linguistics 100 class.
I would have thought they would have had smarter linguists involved in such a situation as alien contact. For 'experts', some of the conclusions there were reaching, like learning and teaching using sound and symbols seemed to take them an extraordinarily long time for them to reach. Why would they think interpreting sound was the best and only way to communicate when even our space probes are full of sights, sounds and music to try and convey all the ways we express ourselves? For that reason I would not call it a masterpiece from a linguistic point of view. It just gave people who never think about linguistics in their daily lives some interesting talking points.
Also, the idea that the language determines the way we think and that consciousness can overlap time is fantastic.
This is an idea that anyone who has learned a language completely different to their own (e.g. English to Japanese) has at some point during the process. So once again, it's not a revolutionary idea, just interesting to those who have never considered it before.
Now, talking about realistic movies, this is one of the few where aliens are not humanoids or reptile-like creatures.
They are squid. Complete with the ability to shoot ink. Squid and Octopus are considered very intelligent, so once again, it's not a huge leap.
You may be right that people with a low IQ may think it's bad. But that doesn't mean those with a higher IQ don't think it's bad too. It seems to sit in a safe middle ground for people who like to consider philosophical ideas and weighty concepts but don't have lot of original or independent thoughts themselves.

This is not even almost correct. It is also clear indication that you are fluent in only one language.
This is a movie for intelligent and thoughtful people, meaning that any low IQ person who watches it will think that it's a bad movie.

Some people talk, as if the movie has invented a new concept. We allready know time lines theory exists and that the learning new languages open minds.
The problem is how the movie portrait this subjects.
