I stand corrected on Prince in 1980, but the first screening back in March (when it was still called "Story of Your Life") definitely had Prince instead of Sheena Easton.

Classic perhaps, but wrong; "9 to 5" wasn't even released in the U.S. until 1981.
The line originally was Prince (which fits) but they changed it to Sheena Easton after he died; they didn't even bother to change the year so it would make sense.
With respect to the OP, I'm fairly sure the line in the film was "a hit record in the 1980s", not "a hit record in 1980".
And if it
was
specifically 1980, then that wouldn't work for Prince either, as he didn't have a UK Top 40 hit until 1982 (with "1999").
Besides, the whole line was clearly a joke anyway (and got a big laugh in my theatre). I mean; who has a hit record in Greenland?
