<p dir="auto">Don't read if you don't want to be spoiled. The Heptapods are the future of humanity more than 3000 years from now.  Apparently something happens in 3000 years that requires humanity to see the future and continue on into evolving into the heptapod beings.  Pretty much the same plot as Interstellar which is why I think the writers didn't reveal that purpose.</p>
