All of the events started because he joined up with that evil witch to get the magic thing that would bring back his wife, the rest of the movie is about him planning to use it on his wife, and then at the end of the movie he uses it on someone else. So had he never set out to find the magic thing to bring back his wife in the first place the end result would have been the same: his wife would still be dead. Nothing was achieved.

yep. easiest way to turn an ok movie into a pile of ****. make the entire film time travel bullshit or a dream.
