Boy, I did not relate to this one. What a stupid, ridiculous disappointing eye-rollingly ludicrous film.
I suppose that if you're a woman who doesn't think that having a young son who:

not only insists that his dead brother is still alive, and is always present as a companion, and has conversations with him, but also demands that you play along and lay out clothes, make breakfast, etc. for the dead brother.

puts a dead, embalmed cat on your coffee room table when he's upset(where the hell a 12 year-old got embalming fluid from in a remote house out in the country I'll never know).

insists that you are, in fact, not his mother but an imposter.
and you don't think that any of those things warrant an immediate trip to an emergency room psychiatrist, then you might just deserve anything that happens to you and him.
And how fortunate for the son that
the mother didn't manage to get the tape off of her mouth until the split second the Red Cross donation seekers shut the door behind them when leaving the house(why they felt free to just walk into a complete strangers house in the first place is another thing altogether), or that, when she did manage to escape her bonds, the trip wire the son set for the mother just happened to trip her in the exact way needed so that she hit her head off off of the floor and knocked herself out again, making it possible for her to be tied-up again.
Then there was the single painkiller that she took that apparently put her in such a deeply comatose state that she could even be tied up in the first place, hands and feet, without waking up.
Nope, just didn't get it at all.
That's not everything, but, it's enough. Rubbish.
Peace.
That had
not
occurred to us, Dude.

Agreed. I thought it was a well shot film and had good acting, but the plot was ridiculous. The "twist" was obvious from the outset and the fact that when she did get out that she couldn't overpower her son is pretty stupid. I mean, why did she have to run away she coukd have tied him up and called someone. I can't believe I heard such good things about this.
That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die.

You hit the nail on the head. This movie walked out every single tired trope it could in order to try and pander scares out of the audience.
Jump scares - check
Scary nightmare scene - check
Drugged character - check
Tied up character who can't break free - check
Tied up character gets tape off mouth just as a potential savior leaves - check
Fleeing character falls and gets knocked out - check
And on and on it goes. It also required that no character actually communicate like a normal person would in order to further the plot. In reality, after coming out of a terrible accident that left her disfigured and sans one son, no mother would EVER put up with her surviving child's delusion right to her face. She would have told him flat out that his brother was dead, multiple times, but that's never done here. It's left for the last 5 minutes when it's too late to make a difference because it's supposed to shock the audience.
It's too bad, because I'd been wanting to see this for awhile. How disappointing.

Totally agree, not to mention the terrible ending and being able to spot the twist from the very beginning.
