After the watching the trailer and the skulls in the cavern, the way she vibrates her head in the woods and eats a cockroach i was expecting a movie where "something isn't quite as it seems", and it will slowly unravel that she's some kind of monster. She would chase and try to kill the boys and it would unravel that the bones were she had killed before.
Sure, it qualifies as "horror" even without any of that but that's what i was expecting.

Well, unless my memory betrays me, their trailer was more like a teaser, it was simply the scene of the Mother walking in the woods.
You can still find it on youtube. I think it's pretty cool.
Fine, fine, I'll leave! But first I'm going to bother these peanuts! Hmm? Yes? Hmm? HMM?

Oh; I wasn't aware there were two. Was the director's version not (as) misleading?

That trailer was edited by the distributor, whereas the first (teaser) trailer was edited by the directors.

There have been tons of complaints about the misleading trailer - she never eats a cockroach, for example; they edited bits of two scenes together. I think it's more "thriller" or "suspense" than "horror."
