she did a surgery and she looks exactly the same
elias doesnt recognize her not entirely because of her looks but mostly because of how she acts with him
his mother was kind, and she "saw" lukas too, elias says that in the end
the imposter tho, who was her friend (photo with the two), did a plastic surgery to look like her
the house was on sale because no one should live there. the imposter wants to take her place
but she doesnt love the kid and that is pretty clear, and the boy starts catching up
she does the mole on her face because she couldnt put a real one. she couldve easily said to the kid she removed it on surgery way before she did, she didnt need to add a fake one again. and she was painting the mole before she knew he thought she wasnt the mom. so she removed it on surgery to add it again and live with it forever?
AND the eyes. on the video she did she had brown eyes, and her eyes are blue on the bed. she says the contact lenses are in the bathroom but elias goes in there and doesnt find any. because there was none.
and in the end, when elias dies with the imposter, he can than see his mom, clearly a spirit of love and nothing like the one in the house.
THAT SPIRIT, the real mother, knows the song lukas loved. and sings it.
the one in the house, the imposter, didnt know his favorite song and didnt care to prove she was the real mother at all.
EDIT: AAAAAND, I just remembered, since the mom is also dead (the friend killed her) and the boy is living alone, he ordens those big amounts of pizzas. because thats the only food a kid like him would know how to prepare. the pizza delivery guy only talks to him and doesnt understand the big amount.

I now believe she was the real mother.
We see photos of her in the house with a plastic surgeon's marks on her face.
We see her spirit, unnoticed by the firefighters, walk out of the burning house, now wearing the dress seen in the last shot. She's united with the spirits of both Lukas and Elias - who ran upstairs, not out, as the fire spread.
So Lukas didn't tell her what his favorite song was; this isn't terribly unusual.

I thought that the woman in the photo with the (real) mother might have been her twin - they do run in families! Perhaps the accident, or whatever, that killed Lukas also killed their mother. She may have lived long enough to have realized that Elias blamed himself for it, and to have asked her sister to pose as her so that his guilt wouldn't be compounded by her death, as well.
Or not. I'm confused!

I also like to think that it was actually an impostor, but mostly because I don't want to think that a child would torture his own mother like that. I can sleep better at night if I think that he did all that to an impostor.
