Didn't she share in a recent episode about her husband and she seemed to have had a great relationship initially? Now they introduce a woman and say that they were together? Talk about a 180. I guess the writers must have realized some people don't like her but they want to keep her. They're smart. They know that if they kick her off now people will cry discrimination and how people are not giving gay characters a chance ( which is so not true), so they played the "gay card". Plus they don't want people to ship her and Pride. What a 180! SMH

Didn't she share in a recent episode about her husband and she seemed to have had a great relationship initially?
Yes. From
Course Correction (2016)
's script:
Gregorio (G): No way to live, is it? You know, don't you? Why I left New Orleans before.
Sunglasses Dude (SD): Couldn't very well bring you on board, even temporarily, without fully vetting you first. Sorry.
G: I'm surprised you let me walk through the door.
SD: Your husband.
G: McKinley.
SD: He's the one who stole the money meant for the rebuild after Katrina, not you.
G: Ex-husband. Still, we were married. Moved down here from New York. I should've known. Well, I was just a kid when I met him, you know, I fell for the razzle and dazzle. I didn't even know who I was yet.
SD: Last I heard, McKinley's still on the run.
G: Yep. Me, too, in my own way. Couldn't get out of NOLA fast enough afterwards.
Took back my maiden name.
SD: (softly): I'm sorry.
G: I'm gonna go.
SD: Aren't you tired of running?
G: (exhales) Yes, I am. The problem is, everywhere I turn, I see what my husband did to this place.
SD: So, what, you up and joined the FBI? Make amends for what he did?
G: Yeah. Something like that.
SD: So, what, you're gonna tell the others, now?
G: Not my story to tell.
SD: But you should know NOLA's been through a lot more than just Katrina. It's a pretty forgiving city, if you let it be. Take my word for it.
Ignoring politics doesn't mean politics will ignore you.

William on This is Us. He's older, dying of cancer, black, & a grandpa. And boy are some having a field day. Just like Gregorio, people are saying the writers basically just threw this in. But we have no idea of their past. I am one of those having a field day cause I think they basically just threw this in, and I'm appalled. The show was going so well and to me it's taken a turn that I neither foresaw or expected. I've lost my desire to continue watching it. So far I've missed the two new episodes and still wrangling in my mind if I want to continue watching it. I don't like when I'm sprung these kinds of changes. If I started off watching a show with the character as gay is one thing, but when they do a 180 on me, it pisses me off.
It's the same with the Marvel Agents of Shield character. One of the leads (and such a handsome and fine guy), was a good guy, and then they did a 180 and made him a very bad and hateful person. I don't like 180s with my lead stars.

Unfortunately, you're not wrong.
For instance, a show called Chasing Life featured a bisexual girl, (and she always identified as bisexual, and never as a lesbian,) when she dated another girl, everything was fine and dandy, but when she dated a guy, some lesbians attacked the show for giving into hetero storylines. I mean, what did they expect Being bisexual means that you're likely to sometimes date a girl, and sometimes date a guy.
However, fortunately enough, there were a lot of lesbians that called them out by saying that biphobia is just as ugly as homophobia.

Your either gay or straight the networks have no room for Bisexuals. It's like they are afraid of the topic. My guess is it offends some lesbians because there are a few whom under no circumstances wants to see any woman sleeping with another woman also sleeping with a man. This is said to both sexes.

CBS' entertainment president specifically said lesbian, and I don't see any reason to doubt that, since it's not uncommon at all that people don't realize (or accept) that they're gay until they're older. So if she got married real young it's not impossible or even unlikely that she's a lesbian and not bisexual. And her line about how she "didn't even know who [she] was" indicates lesbian, rather than bisexual.

Her being a lesbian is in no way a recent attempt by the writers to get people to like her more. It was always planned. The head of CBS' entertainment department spoiled already before the season even began that Gregorio was a lesbian, but even without that spoiler, there were hints earlier in the season. She never had a "great" relationship with her former husband. In fact, she mentioned pretty much the opposite, that they got married really young and that she didn't know who he really was, and that she didn't even know who she was.
Vanessa Ferlito who we cast in NCIS: New Orleans, her character is lesbian and theyre doing a storyline a little later in the fall where the audience will understand that and see that.
That's a quote from an article published August 10th.

I got the impression that as she stated she got into that relationship when she first moved to New York and was lonely and in a bad place in her life. She mentioned she "didn't know who she was". So they may be leaving the door open for her to swing either way depending on fan mail or whim of the writers.
