This is precisely why the ending is an awesome one, not a terrible one. We need a lot more movies like this. You're judging the movie based on what moral messages you think it should deliver.

If the ending was a shock it was because it didn't make any sense.

While not giving a sh!t about the innocent man's reputation, imagine if he was the father of someone and they were lead to believe that their father liked to rape young women on their sparetime? Just so that they're crazy friend would not be seen as the murderous bitch she truly was.
I liked the movie but man that conclusion was terrible.
