I was hoping someone here might recommend an interesting and thorough biography/examination of Edgar Allan Poe. Something comprehensive (life, his writing, that kind of thing). I've seen a few online but wanted someone's recommendation if possible. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Edgar Allan Poe: A Critical Biography
by Arthur Hobson Quinn is available online for free at eapoe dot org. It is highly acclaimed.
Also, I liked
Edgar A. Poe: Mournful and Never-ending Remembrance
by Kenneth Silverman.

Julian Symons,
The Tell-Tale Heart: The Life and Works of Edgar Allen Poe
, is the best I've read. Not long, but thorough, and very well written.
Daniel Hoffman,
Poe Poe Poe Poe Poe Poe Poe
, is maddening (as you might guess) but amusing and interesting.
Put it on a tripod!

Poe
by James M. Hutchisson is the only one I've read cover to cover but thought it was both comprehensive and unbiased. It's got good reviews too.
According to me, yes. I am the person it's usually according to when I'm talking.
