You got it wrong, Lucy dumped him because she sensed there was something between he and Kara then pushed him in her direction. It was Kara who broke it off with him, he had no choice but to except it. So he ended up without someone, but it was not HE who who made the choice
to alone.
This. Shame, he does end up alone despite caring for both. I do wonder how long it will be until he finds a new love interest and Kara gets jealous.
