I think it might have been "The Adventures of Pete and Pete", but I went through the descriptions and couldn't find this one. Basically, this kid can hear radio signals and ends up being an alien from outer space. I thought it might be "Eerie Indiana" too, but couldn't find that description either.

The kid was really nerdy and he knew lots of trivia about the past. His frequency would bounce off of a signal from the 40s and 50s. It ended with the main characters accepting him. It could also have been "are you afraid of the dark?", but I didn't see it on there either. I'm fairly sure it was a TV show.
