Sure the cinematography and production design were great. But the narrative was standard convoluted Korean storytelling, the characters were over the top and totally uninteresting, and the twists grew tiresome really quickly. Am I missing something?

It's a good movie, but definitely overrated, probably because it's an asian movie.

Started of with lots of promise and then descended into garbage
I had to FF the last 30 minutes. I couldn't believe how bad it was

Not really, the film just didn't work/connect with you, it's as simple as that. It seems that you really enjoy Chang Dong Lee's films instead of the other more popular Korean films; you've got pretty cool and unique taste.
Raging Bull = Best movie
