<p dir="auto">Hideko was afraid that her uncle was going to track her down.  Even if she decided to get Sookee in on the plan she still needed someone to pass off as her in the asylum so that it was recorded that a lady HIdeko was staying in the asylum.<br />
Also, they probably didn't want "the Count" to know that Sookee was in cahoots, in case he'd suspect they'd swindle him out of his share of the money, which they eventually did anyway.</p>
