I just have to shake my head, over people complaining that there's too much plot.
IT'S HISTORICAL FICTION. OF COURSE THEY ADDED STUFF TO IT.
That's what writers DO.
As for the unresolved plot threads bummer. I wanted to find out who killed Leah.
